There are many reasons behind this.

Little History of French Country Furniture

French country furniture was started in the southeastern region of France, which is known as Provence. Farmers at those times were its creators. It was built to meet basic needs of people. It was started around 10th century and undergoes many eras. French country furniture which we see in these days is evolved in many centuries so, despite all the changes and modifications, we can see that old presence in it.

Medieval Era

This era prevails from 10th to 15th century. French country furniture at that time met the basic need of people and was very simple. Larger pieces of French oak were used to diminish chances of theft. This furniture was deep carved by hand to make styles.

The Louis Periods

This era prevails from year 1560 to 1792. French country furniture is the term which also evolved from French furniture. It happened due to influence of Italian designers. Rustic pieces were also evolved to make it affordable for the majority of people. “Os de Mouton”, the famous chair was also created at those times.

Directoire and Empire Eras

In this era Grecian and Egyptian themes were introduced. This era prevails from 1789 to 1814. This was Napoleon’s revolutionary period and on most of furniture has ‘N’ Carved over it. Woods such as mahogany and ebony were also utilized to construct the furniture.

King Charles X

King Charles X was reinstated after fall of Napoleon’s era. Well that was the sign of another change in French country furniture and this change happened. The geometric style started to dislike, and people redesign it with old genuine looks. Lighter woods were started to be used in the creation of this furniture.

Louis-Phillipe

Yet another change came. Under the influence of Louis-Phillipe, French country furniture was started at industry level. Many changed were undergone. Woods such as rosewood and mahogany were employed to create the furniture. The old style from beginning eras was implemented again.

Art Nouveau and Art Deco

Art Nouveau came into being in late 1800s. It was not less than a revolutionary movement in French Country Furniture. People say it, an Art Nouveau movement. It was all new look to this furniture with lots of curves and styles of nature objects. Later in 1910, Art Deco came into being which simplifies the Art Nouveau. It gave different finishes to the French country furniture.
Today’s French Country Furniture and Its Identification

It still is in use as old conventional style or the modern painted furniture. It is needed of time, and the style of people which make these changes.

You may be able to find it in chateaux which fit very well in large houses. On the other hand, it can be found in painted style in compact mode. People all around the world are using French country furniture in bedrooms; like beds, bedside tables, and wardrobe or in lounges; like sofas or couches. Painted French country furniture doesn’t mean that you can do it any colors of your choice. Colors like honey brown, white, and beige are specific identification of French country furniture. Perhaps light shades of different colors can also be used for painted furniture.

Upholstering is not very popular among French Country furniture because it goes against the theme. People want to make it look as vintage and antique so most part of it remains as simple as it can be. Upholstering was seldom used in those eras.
